We believe you should know exactly what this system collects about you, why, and how long it's kept. There are no ads, no data sales, and no surprises.

What the HUD Collects

When you wear the Reel8 HUD, it reports the following to NWG servers:

  • Avatar key and display name — to identify you across sessions
  • Home grid name and URI — for hypergrid visitors, so your leaderboard entry shows your home grid correctly
  • Which Fishing Zone you're in — so competition entry and zone activity stats work correctly
  • Catch events — item name, rarity, and XP earned on each catch
  • Equipped gear items — the names of any Reel8 gear you have active, used for competition gear-exclusion checks
  • Presence heartbeat — a signal sent every 60 seconds while the HUD is worn, used to count live active anglers and verify catches happened during genuine play sessions

What the Fishing Pole Collects

The pole itself sends a catch signal to the regional Fish Server when you land a catch. That signal contains your avatar key and home grid name. The Fish Server then reports the catch to the hub as described above.

What We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect your real-world name, email, or any personal information outside the virtual world
  • We do not collect your location, IP address, or device information
  • We do not track anything when the HUD is detached

How Long Data Is Kept

  • Catch history — retained indefinitely as part of your fishing record
  • Presence heartbeats — kept for 90 days, then purged
  • Competition entries and results — retained indefinitely as part of the historical record
  • Anomaly/security logs — kept for 12 months

Who Can See Your Data

Your display name, home grid, XP, level, and catch stats appear on the public Reel8 leaderboard and Hall of Fame pages. NWG Staff can see your full catch history and gear status in the admin panel, used solely for support and fairness enforcement.

We do not share your data with third parties. We do not sell it. We do not use it for advertising.

How To Remove Your Data

Contact NWG Staff via the NWG Discord and request deletion of your Reel8 fishing record. Your avatar key, catches, level, and competition history will be permanently removed within 14 days, consistent with NWG's standard data deletion policy.

This website uses Plausible Analytics — a privacy-respecting, cookie-free analytics tool. No personal data is collected. No cross-site tracking. Page view counts only, used to understand how the site is being used.
