Everything you need to know about Reel8 — from your first cast to the Hall of Fame.
Reel8 is completely free. You need two things: a Fishing Pole and a HUD. Both are available free at any Reel8 Fishing Zone kiosk — just touch it and they'll be delivered to your inventory.
With your pole worn and HUD attached, walk to any Reel8 Fishing Zone and find the water's edge. You must cast into system water — prims shaped like water won't work. If you cast on land or shallow water, the pole will tell you to find deeper water.
Touch your Fishing Pole to cast, or press the Cast button on your HUD. Then wait. The timer runs between 20 and 30 seconds per cast attempt — you'll get a nibble, a miss, or a catch. If it's a miss, the pole automatically recasts. If it's a catch, reel it in!
Every catch delivers a real 3D mesh fish object directly to your inventory — a physical keepsake, not just a number. Common fish are nice. Rare fish are beautiful display pieces. An Ultra Rare Swordfish is a genuine trophy worth showing off.
You also earn XP on every catch, scaled by rarity:
XP accumulates into levels. Higher levels improve your catch odds, up to Level 5 where the mechanical benefit caps — but you keep earning prestige titles and climbing toward the Hall of Fame threshold.
Official contests run 8 times per year, scoped to specific Fishing Zones. Sign up by touching the Competition Board in-zone before fishing. Important: gear bonuses are excluded from official contests — everyone competes on equal terms. Top 3 finishers earn exclusive competition trophies.
As you progress, you can earn free gear items — Fishing Chairs, specialty rods, hats — that boost your catch odds during casual fishing. These are earned, never purchased. Each piece is delivered as an actual wearable item to your inventory.
Reach 50,000 XP and hit Level 11: Mythic Fisher, and your name is permanently added to the Reel8 Hall of Fame. You'll also receive an exclusive Hall of Fame trophy wearable — claim it at any Prize Board in a Fishing Zone.
Catch odds are published here so there are no hidden mechanics. There is no streak-breaker — hot and cold runs are genuinely random. What you see is what you get.
Reel8 welcomes visitors from any OpenSim grid. Your name appears on the leaderboard with your home grid noted. Fish deliveries and prize claims work normally as long as you're physically present at the zone.
